The Lore of INFERNA
Your field guide to the world of Pangeus
The story of INFERNA
Pangeus before the catastrophe
Pangeus was home to four kingdoms:
- Esford lay in the north and is lost.
- Orin lay in the south and is lost.
- Jerro lies in the east and is playable as the red realm.
- Caratas lies in the west and is playable as the blue realm.
The old realms are not simple “good versus evil” factions. The surviving reports are incomplete, and the remaining realms interpret the catastrophe differently.
The night of the Infernumantis
The Gate of Erebion lies beneath Pangeus. It was sealed by the Erebion Seal, also called the Heart of the Sealer. On the night of the Infernumantis, the seal broke. Rifts have appeared ever since, allowing monsters and corruption to enter the world.
The Abyssus is not a place or a hell, but a formless corruption. Even fragments of the seal pose a risk to those who carry them.
Jerro and Caratas
Jerro is shaped by the Order. The Order venerates the Sealer, considers closing the Rifts a duty, and pursues those who search for the hidden truth.
Caratas stands for knowledge, investigation, and reason. There, the catastrophe is studied rather than interpreted mainly through faith. Both perspectives contain incomplete truths.
The role of the players
Player characters are Survivors. They can enter Rifts, carry fragments of the seal, and resist Abyssus corruption. They are not chosen by prophecy and do not begin as saviors of the world.
The class determines how a character survives. The faction determines the political and religious perspective with which the story begins.
The struggle for the seal
The goal is to mend the broken seal, contain the corruption, and buy Pangeus time. The Rifts are symptoms of this break; a final victory is not guaranteed by that alone.
